Deadly Plane Crash in Thailand

An aircraft leaving Thailand going to the holiday resort of Phuket, crashed after landing in heavy rain and strong winds.

 

At least 87 people have died after a budget airliner slipped off the runway and exploded into flames. Approximately 40 people escaped the plane wreck and were hospitalized for severe burns; amongst them was the pilot McDonnell Douglass MD-82. It was a total of 123 passengers aboard, to whom most of them were foreigners.

Reports say that a French tourist aboard a plane behind the one that crashed said she saw the accident happen.

"When the plane landed it caught fire," she said. "We could see the fire coming out of it."

Hospital officials said that those of whom were injured included nationals from Australia, Britain, France, Iran, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

One-Two-Go is one of Thailand's first budget airlines.

Established in December 2003, One-Two-Go is a subsidiary of Orient Thai Airways, and services domestic routes.

This is plane crash has been one of Thailand's deadliest aviation accidents since December 1998, when 101 people were killed after a Thai Airways crashed on landing near another southern resort.
