Stocks are trading slightly lower ahead of Tuesday's rate decision by the Federal Reserve. Continued credit woes and gloomy comments last night from former Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan are pressuring stocks. Most investors are betting on a quarter-point cut in the benchmark federal funds rate Tuesday. Given recent weak economic data some on Wall Street anticipate a half-point rate cut. Traders will get plenty of economic reports to chew on this week, including key reports on inflation, housing starts, and building permits.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 33.98, or 0.05 percent, to 13,408.54. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was down 5.34, or 0.36 percent, to 1,478.91, and the Nasdaq composite index was down 12.68, or 0.49 percent, to 2,589.50.

Treasuries are lower pushing the yield on the 10-year Treasury note up to 4.49 percent from 4.48 percent late Friday.
