Mike Gravel, former Alaska Senator, is not shy about placing the blame for the length of the War in Iraq on the current crop of Democrats eyeing the nomination for President. Especially front runners Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, according to Granel, as they were in a position to do something about the country’s involvement by when the opportunity presented itself chose to fault others instead of taking the appropriate action.
According to USA Election Polls (USAElectionPolls.com), Gravel is coming in at only 1% in the Democratic race. To say he has a shot is quite unrealistic at this point.
Gravel claims he had offered the solution to end the war and have the troops home by the end of 2007, in time for the holidays, as well as the beginning of the primary season, but the Senators instead went for vilifying the current party in power instead of taking a more direct lead in ending the war. He is also faulting the competition for their failure to take steps needed to help prevent global warming.
He cites the dying permafrost in his home state as a sign that significant change is coming to the Earth’s atmosphere and, although he and others in his age group will be gone before the consequences are realized, the need exists to protect the world for the children and grandchildren.
He is also making the rounds of political talk shows, especially those late-night comedy events with a political bent, to be able to express his views and opinions without being seen as a candidate with no viable support. His penchant for speaking his mind may not be so much as making a statement about his campaign as it is in putting focus on where the blame for the current situations in the country belong.
