With the push for needing national identification papers brought about by the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, Senator Christopher Dodd of Connecticut claims he will push for a return of Constitutional liberties during his first 100 days as President of the United States. While pushing the country deeper into debt over the past six years, Dodd also sees the American middle class and workers often ignored by policies that reflect the current administration’s penchant for repaying political favors.
According to USA Election Polls (USAElectionPolls.com), Dodd is like several other runners who are coming in at less than 1%, signing their race might be over soon.
Not only is Dodd pushing for a return of freedoms for Americans, he is also appalled at the rights granted in the Geneva Convention having been pushed aside in the name of national security against Terrorism. While he agrees there is a need to aggressively prosecute those charged with serious crimes against the country, is is against the use of torture or coercion to obtain information, which under the Military Commission Act passed in 2006, makes such information submissable in court.
As a supporter of transparency for government, he is pushing for a federal shield law that would protect the names and privacy of informants to the news media. Currently they are offered no such protection and state shield laws are inconsistent. The need for the law would help the media present facts without fear of recrimination.
Dodd also wants to see more protection of the American worker, despite his backing and vote for the North American Free Trade Agreement, which he claims has opened the door for the global economy and global trade.
