O.J. Simpson charged in robbery, held without bail

O.J. Simpson was arrested Sunday and later charged in an armed robbery case. Simpson and a group of men stole O.J. sports memorabilia from a Las Vegas hotel room on Thursday. The victim told police Simpson and his crew held him at gunpoint while stealing the items. Simpson says they were getting personal items back that belonged to him and says there were no guns involved.

Simpson, who was acquitted of the murder of his wife and her friend in 1995, was arrested Sunday night and charged with two counts of assault with deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit a crime and burglary with a firearm. A judge ordered Simpson to be held without bail.

The district attorney said Simpson would most likely be charged with seven felonies and one gross misdemeanor. The former football star is set to appear in court Thursday where he will be arraigned and formally charged. If convicted, Simpson faces up to 30 years in prison for each robbery count. “He’s facing a lot of time,” said District Attorney David Roger.

Walter Alexander was also arrested in connection with the case. He was charged with two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary with a deadly weapon. Alexander was released without bail on Saturday night.

“Walter was one of the two subjects who had a gun,” said Captain James Dillon. Police said they had no evidence to prove Simpson carried a gun.

“I’m O.J. Simpson. How am I going to think that I’m going to rob somebody and get away with it? You’ve go to understand, this ain’t somebody going to steal somebody’s drugs or something like that. This is somebody going to get his private [belongings] back,” Simpson said. “That’s it. That’s not robbery.”

Meanwhile, O.J.’s book ‘If I Did It: Confessions of the killer’ is being published. The book tells the way the murders happened had he done it.
