Madeleine McCann detective investigated for torturing parents into confessing murder of child

The detective handling the Madeleine McCann case is under investigation on claims that he tortured the mother of another missing girl into confessing that she killed her own child.

Chief Inspector Goncalo Amaral is accused of hiding evidence that three other police officers tortured Leonor Cipriano into confessing that she murdered her daughter, Joana Cipriano, three years ago. Leonor is serving 16 years in jail for the murder of her daughter that she later denied. Cipriano suffered injuries that the cops claim she sustained after throwing herself down a flight of stairs at the police station in an attempt to kill herself.

Amaral and the three officers are accused to fabricating evidence to prove Cipriano killer her daughter and concealing evidence. All four men deny the allegations. They may be forced to appear at a criminal hearing over the accusations.

Portugal police have received harsh criticism of the way they have handled the McCann case. They say they have evidence that could prove Kate McCann accidentally killed Madeleine by a sedative overdose and Gerry McCann helped her cover up the crime. The police say they found traces of blood and body fluid belonging to Madeleine in the car the McCann’s rented 25 days after the disappearance of their daughter.

They are seeking permission to seize Kate’s diary and Gerry’s laptop, because they say they items may hold significant evidence in the case.

British police will interrogate Kate McCann some time next week.
