2010 Winter Olympics Results Men’s Ice Hockey: Sidney Crosby Scores Game-Winner in OT to Lift Canada Past United States, Take Gold

Sidney Crosby snuck the puck past Ryan Miller almost minutes into overtime to wrap up one of the most memorable hockey finals in recent history as Canada topped the United States 3-2 to capture gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Crosby’s goal came on the heels of a dramatic goal from Zach Parise who managed to punch in a rebound for the Americans with 24 seconds left in the third period to force overtime.

Canada managed to build a 2-0 lead in the game as Jonathan Toews 12:50 into the first period and Corey Perry made it a two goal advantage 7:13 into the second frame. The Americans didn’t hang their head though and Ryan Kesler cut the deficit in half when Roberto Luongo couldn’t handle his redirected shot.

Despite giving up the goal Canada held tough and it appeared as if they would when in regulation as the U.S couldn’t find the back of the net for most of the third. That was until they pulled Miller for an extra attacker in the final minutes and that paid off when Parise found the puck in front of Luongo and pushed it home.

While Canada looked to be in danger of letting the gold slip away Crosby wouldn’t let it be as he took a beautiful pass from Jarome Iginla and blasted it past Miller to ignite the celebration.
