Hillary Clinton's Campaign Progress

Since at least October 2002 Clinton has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the United States President when the possibility was raised by an article in the New York Times. Since this time Clinton has appeared in the rankings of the world’s most powerful people according to Forbes magazine and Time magazines Time 100. She is constantly placed among the most popular statewide officials in New York according to opinion polling. At the same time she has been referred to as the most polarizing figure in American politics.

According to the polls on USA Election Polls, Hillary Clinton holds a 20% lead over Barack Obama.

On January 20, 2007 Clinton announced the intention of becoming a candidate for president of the United States during the 2008 election on her website. She stated that she is in the election to win. However, no woman has even been nominated by a major party for the Presidential Office.

To run her campaign Clinton has assembled a team of advisers and operatives. As a result Patti Solis-Doyle has become the first female Hispanic to manage a presidential campaign. During the first half of 2007 Clinton led the field of candidates that were competing for Democratic nomination through opinion polls. Her closest competitors were Barack Obama of Illinois and Senator John Edwards of North Carolina. Records were set for Clinton’s early fundraising.

Then in August 12, 2007 a CNN article discussed fears of Clinton as an exceptionally polarizing individual who could hurt the Democratic party as a whole. Clinton was described as too much political baggage in the article. They sighted Gallup polls that showed a 49 percent public stating they have an unfavorable view of Clinton.
