Stocks Move Higher Amid Fed Rate Cut and a Mild Reading on Consumer Prices:
Stocks continue to move higher on the heels of yesterday’s Fed action. Material related stocks are leading the advance on a sizeable increase in gold and copper prices due to anticipation that the aggressive easing by the FOMC will support the US and global expansion. The rate cut is easing credit fears, which is supporting a strong advance in financials and retailers. In equity news, Morgan Stanley missed amid the fallout from the credit squeeze, Corning and General Mills topped profit expectations, and Apple announced new outlets for its iPhone in Europe. In economic news, housing starts and building permits disappointed again while inflation data remained tame.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 116.32, or 0.85 percent, to 13,855.71. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was up 17.55, or 1.15 percent, 1,537.33, and the Nasdaq composite index was up 29.20, or 1.10 percent, to 2,680.86.
Treasuries are lower pushing the yield on the 10-year Treasury note up to 4.55 percent from 4.47 percent late Tuesday.
