Apple Lands Mobile Phone Contract with O2 in the UK

British mobile phone provider O2, owned by Spain's Telefonica, has won an exclusive contract to sell Apple's best seller, the iPhone, in the UK.

The iPhone can be found in O2, Carphone Warehouse and Apple stores on November 9. The UK has set the selling price at $373 (£269) including faster internet access. Customers will also have to sign up for an 18 month contract and choosing an unlimited data package that range from $50-75 (£35-£55) per month.

Exactly how O2 won the mobile contract with Apple is unknown, however Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs, said that "We are coming to the UK and wanted to pick the best carrier and that is O2."

The iPhone is a mobile phone hand device with a touch screen that comes with a built-in iPod media player and wireless media browser. However, unlike most modern phones the iPhone can not use high-speed 3G networks.

In the U.S. they flew off the shelves at first, but last week Apple cut the price of  the iPhone in the from $599 (£300) to $399 (£200).

Some are say that the price cut was due to a decrease in sales, yet Apple announced the sale of its millionth iPhone that happened way before its target set for the end of September.
