On the day of September 6th, 2007, presidential candidate Fred Thompson created a political uproar. While eleven of the elections republican candidates met for the 5th debate of this election, Fred Thompson was not present to make the total an even twelve. Instead He was appearing on The Late Show with Jay Leno. This act created quite a rise in news columnists, radio talk show hosts and other television hosts. The other candidates took this opportunity to joke about Thompson’s absence. For the American people, some have been baffled by this act. They question whether or not Thompson is a serious presidential candidate. Is he trying to advertise his candidacy in a unique approach or is he just fooling around?
According to USA Election Polls (USAElectionPolls.com), Thompson is barely trailing Guiliani. Thompson is doing best in the Southern States.
Mr. Thompson’s act was bold and gutsy for the beginning of his campaign. It leaves us to also question, if this is what we are to expect for the rest of the election? We will have to stay tuned to news and election updates to be sure. Fred Thompson is not only surprising us with late night television appearances but if elected he will be the second president to have been an actor. President Regan was a former actor and an amazing president. We never know who will run for presidency or who will win. We can only vote and hope that the best man, or in the case of the 2008 election, the best woman win. Only time will tell in this election what controversies may happen next.
