Deerfield Beach Apartment Fire Under Control, Dogs Sent in to Search for Bodies

A fire believed to be caused by a propane explosion gutted a three-story Deerfield Beach, Florida apartment complex and still has firefighters and officials trying to account for all the residents of the 40-unit building.

Firefighters searching for residents who may be trapped were forced to exit until a structural engineer determines that the building is safe to re-enter.

With the fire now contained the building is being searched by dogs trained to find bodies and fie accelerants. For those residents who got out of the building the Red Cross was providing food and water and they will determine if it is necessary to open a shelter for the displaced.

Five people were being treated at the emergency room in the Broward Medical Center.
