The headquarters of the Mitt Romney campaign was burglarized during the pre-September 11th weekend. A few things were stolen from the headquarters, including a television and several computers. Although this was a burglary that took place in a campaign headquarters, a spokesman for the Romney campaign said that he believes it was a routine robbery, which had nothing to do with politics. The spokesman, Eric Fehrnestrom, said that because the computers were password protected and the hard drives were encrypted, the only thing that the stolen goods would be able to be used for would be the parts.
While the Romney campaign might believe that there is no political motivation behind the robbery, an alarming trend regarding things being stolen from political offices and headquarters around the nation is making its way to the forefront. This is the third time in recent weeks that a presidential contender has been burglarized. Both Senators Chris Dodd and Barack Obama have been robbed since this summer. In both cases computers and other items were stolen and the perpetrators were found to have not been involved with anything political. However, this is the third time that a campaign headquarters has been made the target of a robbery.
The Romney headquarters, located in building which overlooks Boston’s north end, was investigated by police; however no police report is currently available. The campaign workers at Romeny’s office are taking more security precautions than usual to avoid further losses. Although the attack is not meant to be political, they are still keeping their eyes open.
According to USA Election Polls (USAElectionPolls.com), Mitt Romney is running his strongest race in Iowa and Nevada. He is coming in 4th at this time within the Republican candidates.
