Delaware State University Shooting Update: Police Questioning Student, Looking for Second Suspect

Police have been questioning a Delaware State University student and considered him a “person of interest” in connection to the shooting that took place on the school’s campus early Friday morning.

The Delaware State University shooting resulted in two students being hospitalized, one with life-threatening injuries.

According to school Police Chief James Overton four to six shots were fired at approximately 1:00 a.m. Friday. Two of those shots struck a 17-year-old female student while a single shot struck a 17-year-old male student.

University spokesman Carlos Holmes said, “The female student, her injuries were more serious and they could potentially be life-threatening. We're praying, we're hoping for the best for her.”

While police identified “two persons of interest,” both of whom are students, they have only been able to apprehend one. They have been actively searching for the second and are receiving help from U.S. marshals and agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
