John Edwards Losing Favor In New Hampshire

Former Senator John Edwards had been seen as moving up in the polls for the New Hampshire but a recent surge by New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is starting to take some of the glitter from Edwards’ poll numbers. While Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama remain solidly in the number one and two spots in the polls there, Richardson has edged upwards, apparently taking some of the appeal from Edwards.

Edwards still has a long way to go and it may be fortunate for him that most of the Democratic candidates have opted from campaigning in Florida and Michigan due to their change in the primary dates, moving them ahead of the guidelines set by the National Democratic Party. He will need to save the money if he is to compete with the two largest campaign coffers in the race, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Edwards, who is not a piker in his own right, has raised a respectable $23 million and has spent just over $9 million leaving him a cash balance of around $13 million. Front runners Clinton and Obama have garnered over $120 million together, Clinton being handed over $63 million and Obama nearly $59 million. They have outspent the other candidates by a long shot, with Clinton spending nearly $18 million and Obama over $22 million.

Bill Richardson, getting closer to the showdown in New Hampshire and Iowa is looking at a balance of just over $7, having received about $13.3 million in donations and spending over $6 million of his current campaign expenses.

According to USA Election Polls (USAElectionPolls.com), Edwards has an overall standing of 14% at this time and has a steady hold in the Southern and Western states. His progress is growing steadily.
