The campaign for the White House is hardly under way. In fact, all that we have right now is a bunch of people who hope to be able to be candidates for that office. However, the race has become very nasty indeed, and it is beginning to show in the polls. Barack Obama, who has maintained all along that he does not wish to create a situation in which he is using personal attacks to gain votes, is actually gaining in the areas in which the other candidates are having strong personal attacks going on. There are many things that this is going to help, and one of the main things would be the fact that if he refused to be as nasty as the other candidates, he might gain more popularity.
According to USA Election Polls (USAElectionPolls.com), Obama is trailing Hillary Clinton by about 20% in the national polls.
On the other hand, this is also seen as a weak spot. Several of the other candidates who are running for the democratic nomination as well have mentioned that Obama would not be able to stand up to the nastiness that is bound to come in a presidential race, and that he would not be able to defend himself. Obama maintains that defending himself and attacking other candidates are two different things, and that he would be able to stand up in a race and do so without the personal attacks that others have come to see as simply a part of the race. There are many factors in this debate, and it remains to be seen which side is going to come out on tope of it.
