The New York Times is coming under fire for publishing a full-page ad calling Gen. David Petraeus, “General Betray Us,” after it was discovered the liberal organization that placed the ad paid half price.
MoveOn paid $64,575 for the ad that was run on Sept. 10, more than half the price of the normal rate of $142,083. According to reports MoveOn contacted the New York Times on a Friday about running the ad on the following Monday, the day Petraeus spoke in front of Congress.
When MoveOn contacted the New York Times about running the ad they were charged the standby rate which meant there would be no guarantee that the ad would appear on Monday yet the ad representative for the paper gave the liberal group with the assurance that it would be in the Monday edition.
