Stocks Move Lower Amid Profit Taking and Economic Concerns:
Stocks are turning slightly lower amid profit taking and weakness in both the financial and energy sector. Continuing signs that the housing market remains weak and the lingering credit woes are weighing on the financial shares. A decline in oil prices is also having a negative impact on energy shares. Early morning strength in the technology sector is has given way to a slight decline in the Nasdaq. Microsoft remains a bright spot as its shares are higher ahead of the release of "Halo 3," the third release in the popular series, and Dell is finding support from news it will expand in China. The Dow Jones industrial average was down 26.42 points, or 0.19 percent, at 13,793.77. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was down 4.39 points, or 0.29 percent, at 1,521.36., and the Nasdaq composite index was down 0.70 point, or 0.03 percent, at 2,670.52.
Treasuries are higher pushing the yield on the 10-year Treasury note down to 4.62 percent from 4.63 percent late Friday.
The dollar is lower against major currencies. Gold prices are lower. Oil prices fell as a tropical depression in the Gulf of Mexico dissipated without causing damage to key oil and gas infrastructure.
