Nearly three years after Johnia Berry was brutally murdered in her Knoxville apartment, a suspect has been arrested. Taylor Lee Olson of Knoxville was apprehended Monday and charged with felony murder, pre-meditated first degree murder, attempted first degree murder and aggravated burglary.
On December 6, 2004 Johnia Berry was stabbed multiple times in her apartment. Her roommate, Jason Aymami, was also injured but was able to run half a mile to a phone and alert police. Berry died shortly after police arrived and found her outside another apartment.
Sheriff J.J. Jones says Olson became “a person of interest” after someone tipped investigators more than four months ago. As Olson was taken to jail he said he “didn’t mean for it to happen. It was an accident.”
Olson is being held on a bond of $1 million. He has a criminal record prior to the murder including theft, burglary, forgery, harassment and other charges.
