Phil Spector case declared mistrial

Phil Spector wasn’t declared guilty or not guilty; the music producers murder trial was declared a mistrial on Wednesday. After 5 months of testimony and 12 days of deliberation the jury was unable to meet a verdict with a 10 to 2 deadlock. The jury foreman did not specify which way the jury was leaning.

Spector is on trial for the murder of Lana Clarkson more than 4 years ago. Clarkson died of a gunshot in the mouth at Spector’s home on February 3, 2003. Clarkson had met Spector at the nightclub where she worked and went home with him for a drink.

Spector’s chauffeur testified he heard the gunshot and witnessed Spector holding the gun and saying “I think I killed somebody.” The defense argued Clarkson suffered from personal problems and committed suicide or accidentally shot herself.

In the end the jury was unable to come to a verdict and Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler declared a mistrial. “At this time, I will find that the jury is unable to arrive at a verdict and declare a mistrial in this matter,” Fidler said.
