Postal Service Suggests Eliminate Saturday Mail

Financial World News Update by Equities Magazine

Battling tremendous financial losses, the U.S. Postal Service is looking to reduce costs by dropping Saturday home delivery. Despite an increase in holiday mail, the agency wracked up $297 million in debt for the October-December quarter.

Eliminating weekend mail has been broached by the postal service before. The suggestion was not well received in Congress. John Potter, Postmaster General, is expected to revisit the possibility along with increasing rates, in a speech directed at Postal officials and businesses on Tuesday.
