Mitt Romney Appealing To Iowa Voters

With a little more than four months to go before Iowa voters cast their official ballots, Republican Mitt Romney, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is showing his more conservative side by claiming his support of a Constitutional Amendment, banning gay marriages.

Despite an approval of these marriage in his state while governor, Romney is hoping to appeal to the more conservative and religious voters, widening the gap between him and the other top tier Republican candidates.

With Iowa, traditionally the start of the primary season in presidential elections leaning toward a more conservative view, Romney is ahead in recent polls at about 28 percent, according to data at www.usaelectionpolls.com. In so-called Blue States, his appeal has risen in the past month from a respectable 14 percent to 21 percent. His recent straw poll victory however has slowed his spending in this key primary state as several other top Republican candidates chose not to participate.

Romney has been high in polls since entering the race for the Republican nomination in May of 2006, and has been vocal about his differences with other Republican candidates. His attempts to separate himself from politics as usual are apparently appealing to Iowa voters. Despite the numbers in Blue State polls, Romney is still in the upper single-digits in many individual polls, but considering the types of questions asked and the group of respondents, polls can often lead to misleading conclusions.

His recent stab at some of his republican competition, including a commitment to push for a ban on gay marriages, Romney is attempting to show himself as the candidate that can unite the party and defeat the Democrats on election day.
