While there is a common thread in the Democratic political rhetoric on health costs in the United States and the need for insurance coverage for all Americans, how that is accomplished remains fighting words among most of the contenders. Dennis Kucinich, Democrat Representative from Ohio claims the simplest method is to qualify everyone for Medicare.
In the meantime, this 60year-old Congressman points to his own health initiative to help others see the difference a lifestyle change can make in a person’s health. As a vegan who subsists on fruits and vegetables that he credits for his well-being and has stated that having a wife a couple of decades his junior also keeps him feeling young and healthy. However, even his supporters doubt that simple lifestyle change would provide the needed benefit that all of America is looking to find.
While individual choice remains a buzzword among politicians, it is largely believed that through government regulation many of the choices could be eliminated, providing for a healthier population. This type of thinking is never going to sit well, according to Kucinich, who is a strong advocate on personal freedoms, except in areas such as abortion rights.
Although he chimes in with many of his fellow Democrats about the need to change the way health care is handled in the country, taking the for-profit organizations out of the equation may help bring prices down. Whether it is Kucinich, who with low numbers in the polls reported at www.usaelectionpolls.com is doubtful, or Hillary Clinton or Rudy Giuliani, the current front-runners, changing the healthcare system is going to a battle on Capital Hill.
