Ron Paul, held as an example of fresh thinking and new ideas by a small conservative constituent who want to see drastic changes from the current administration, released a new message on his website on the 22nd of September. The message was full of optimism and hope for a candidate that has been written off by many political analysts and polls show has little chance of winning the primary.
“The end is nigh” began the message, perhaps in a literary nod to pundits who believe the Paul campaign has little legs. He went on to clarify that he was speaking only of the end of the third quarter of 2007, and delivered a message stating the need of building funds and resources for the future of the campaign. He noted that at the end of the second quarter, the Paul campaign had more money than John McCain, and went on to espouse the need for serious change in the way the White House does business.
According to USAElectionPolls.com and a survey done by USA Today and Gallup on September 8th, Paul lags behind his Republican competitors, garnering a minuscule 1% of the vote. It is clear that something drastic will have to happen for his message to be heard by the popular constituency in the general election next year. Whether that will happen or not won’t be decided by website messages but by a mistake by a popular candidate mixed with a broadening of his base. The road to the election is long, however, and as many Paul supporters will tell you, anything can happen.
