New York City public advocate Betsy Gotbaum’s daughter-in-law died in an airport holding cell after she was arrested.
Carol Ann Gotbaum was arrested Saturday at the Sky Harbor International Airport for disorderly conduct after missing her flight. The 45-year-old mother of four was placed in a Phoenix airport holding cell. Police say it appears she accidentally strangled while trying to free herself of handcuffs.
Betsy Gotbaum says the family is “extraordinarily upset” and is keeping a close eye on the investigation.
