Toyota owners are having their vehicles returned to them after the recent recalls, but some drivers are saying the automaker’s fix is a bust. Already complaints have been rolling in that the sudden acceleration glitch that prompted the global 10 million vehicle recall was not repaired after the cars went into the shop.
Over the last two weeks, seven complaints have been filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the pedal modification and floor mat replacement was ineffective in rectifying the original problems.
As of yet the claims have gone uninvestigated, but the NHTSA is concerned that the problem is electronic rather than mechanical, rendering present fixes futile and presenting a continuing threat on the road.
NHTSA has announced plans to look into Toyota’s electronic throttle system, while the car company performs its own investigation. Toyota believes the problem is not electronic and that present fixes will be effective in correcting unintended acceleration.
Other complaints regarding the recalls have also been filed as costumers complain regarding unusual vehicle behavior like check-engine lights following the recall.
The Japanese based company is recalling 5.4 million vehicles to correct the floor mats interference with the accelerator pedal in addition to 4.1 million cars and trucks for a gas pedal with a tendency to stick.
