She was a clean-scrubbed cutie when she starred in the remake of Parent Trap, but during her teen years Lindsay Lohan was in the news more frequently for her bad behavior than for her acting or singing work. The petite redhead knows she’s made mistakes in the past and in a recent interview with Britain’s The Sun, Lohan came clean about the drug and alcohol abuse behind her well-publicized problems.
The 23-year-old actress admitted to past problems with “alcohol, cocaine and mind-altering substances,” attributing her trouble in 2007, when she was arrested and entered treatment three separate times, to family problems. Lohan also talked about one of the frightening experiences that lead her to seek treatment. After taking the sleep aid Ambien, Lohan told The Sun that she passed out while in a hotel bathtub, waking only once the water was overflowing. It was following that incident that Lohan checked into rehab for the first time. Later arrests for drunk driving and cocaine possession would lead to two more stints in treatment that same year.
Lohan credits ongoing therapy and alcohol education with helping her stay on top of the life-long process of recovery.
