So far two dozen cases of E. Coli have been reported. The bacteria cause dehydration and diarrhea. It affects mostly children and the elderly, or those with weak immune systems.
The recalled meat was distributed nationwide through retail grocery stores including Wal-Mart stores and Pathmark stores.
Topps Meat Company was inspected by a food safety assessment team. The assessment team found that Topps mixed meat from the day before in with next days batch. The company was not following proper handling procedures.
