San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies End in Fireworks

The surpise team of the year is no doubt the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies finished off the year strong winning 13 of their final 14 games. They were not able to catch the division leading Diamondbacks but they were able to tie the San Diego Padres for the NL wildcard.

However that did not come easy. After losing Friday night's game against the Diamondbacks ace Brandon Webb, the Rockies were forced to win their final 2 games and hope the Padres lost their final 2 games. That is what exactly happened.

After the Padres ruined their playoff hopes Friday, the Brewers got revenge and took the last two games. This resulted in a one game playoffs between the Rockies and Padres at Coors Field last night.

Major League Baseball does a coin toss to determine home field advantage in the case of tiebreakers. The Rockies won the toss against the Padres and therefore had won the rights to play at home.

If the Rockies are to finish the regular season on a great note and clinch a playoffs spot, they had to beat the ace of the Padres staff, Jake Peavy.

Instead, the Rockies managed to beat Trevor Hoffmann in the bottom of the 14th inning game classic. The authors of EasyBaseballBetting suggest that if you want to root for a cinderella of the season, the Rockies are the team to root for.
