Madeleine McCann lead detective fired from position

The detective heading up the Madeleine McCann case has been fired from his position as head of the Judicial Police in Algarve after he publicly attacked British police.

Goncalo Amaral accused British detectives of only investigating leads that Madeleine’s parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, want looked into. He also accused the McCann’s of “creating and working on” inquires and then giving them to the police in Leicestershire.

“The British police have only been working on that which the McCann couple want them to and which is most convenient for them,” Amaral said. “They have only investigated tips and information developed and worked on for the McCanns, forgetting that the couple are formal suspects in the death of their daughter Madeleine.”

Kate and Gerry McCann were named official suspects in the disappearance of their daughter after traces of Madeleine’s blood were found in the back of a car they hired 25 days after Madeleine went missing. Police initially believed that Kate accidentally killed Madeleine by an overdose of a sedative and Gerry helped cover up the crime.

Police now say Madeleine may have died after falling down a flight of stairs in the apartment they were staying. They believe Kate and Gerry hid Madeleine’s body in the refrigerator and then disposed of it.

Amaral is currently under investigation on the belief that he and three former colleagues concealed evidence and  tortured a woman into making a false confession of killing her daughter. The woman, Leonor Cipriano, is currently serving 16 years in jail for the murder of her daughter Joana.
