Four men arrested for theft of Da Vinci painting “Madonna with the Yarnwinder”

British police arrested four men in connection with the theft of the Leonardo da Vinci painting called “Madonna with the Yarnwinder.” The painting was stolen in August 2003 from Drumlanrig Castle in Scotland. The men posed as tourist to steal the painting that cost more than $31 million.

The ‘Madonna with the Yarnwinder’ is dated back to 1501. The theft was listed as on of the top 10 art crimes on the FBI’s list.

 

“We are extremely pleased to recover the ‘Madonna of the Yarnwinder painting,” said Detective Chief Inspector Mickey Dalgleish. “Through careful investigations and intelligence-led police work we were able to locate the painting and make four arrests.”
