Topps Meat Company going out of business after beef recall

Topps Meat Company is going out of business after they were slammed with a recall that has been named the second largest in the United States history. Topps recalled 21.7 million pounds of ground beef after they discovered the meat may have been contaminated with E. Coli bacteria.

Topps Meat announced Friday they would be going out of business because of the financial impact of such a large recall. Thirty confirmed cases of E. Coli were linked to the meat, but no deaths have been reported.

“This is tragic for all concerned,” said the Topps chief operating officer, Anthony D’Urso. “We sincerely regret the impact this will have on our employees, our customers and suppliers, and the community. Most of all, we regret that our products have been linked by public health agencies to recently reported illnesses. We hope and pray for the full recovery of those individuals.”
