SmallCapVoice.com, Inc., a recognized corporate consulting firm known for its ability to help emerging growth companies build a following among retail and institutional investors, provides the following market commentary and small cap stock highlights:
Stocks Are Surging Amid Strong Employment Data
The S&P 500 Index is trading above its all-time closing high, while the Nasdaq Composite is at a fresh multi-year high following the upbeat September nonfarm payroll number that suggested the expansion continues to generate new jobs. The advance is broad-based, with advancers ahead of losers by a three-to-one margin, but volume on the NYSE is light.
The Labor Department reported that employers added 110,000 jobs in September. The report was inline with analysts expectations and was a reassuring sign to Wall Street that the job market wasn't pulling back sharply as was feared a month ago. Though the data appeared to lessen the likelihood of an interest rate cut when the Federal Reserve meets Oct. 30-31, investors were relieved that the economy doesn't appear headed for a precipitous slowdown.
Research in Motion is up sharply after topping the Street's profit estimate, and shares of Merrill Lynch and Washington Mutual are shrugging off their respective profit warnings.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 94.46, or 0.68 percent, to 14,068.77. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was up 12.20, or 0.79 percent, to 1,555.04, and the Nasdaq composite index was up 40.02, or 1.46 percent, to 2,773.59.
Bond prices are down sharply and the yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 4.66 percent from 4.53 percent late Thursday.
The dollar was mixed against major currencies. Gold prices are higher.
A barrel of light, sweet crude was down 56 cents to $80.88 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Investors applauded the eMAx’s announcement that they have signed a marketing and distribution agreement for new forms of portable energy products. eMax plans to cross-market and promote new energy products and technologies along with a new line of consumer electronics that eMax plans to launch in January of 2008. eMax Media Group is currently building out the network systems that will allow the company to market and sell eMax family entertainment and media content; which includes music, games, movies, gifts, electronics, and other consumer goods worldwide.
