Denver Police Arrest 83 People at Columbus Day Parade

The Denver, Colorado police arrested 83 protestors at a Columbus Day Parade after they decked the parade route with fake blood and dismembered baby dolls as a symbol of what happened to the Native American population as a result of Columbus’s entry to the New World.

Denver’s Columbus Day Parade on Saturday was delayed for about an hour as police rounded up protestors for blocking the parade and interfering with a peaceful assembly. Several of the arrested protestors were also charged with resisting arrest.

Columbus Day has long angered several groups who view the explorer as a precursor to the slave trade, wide-scale slaughter and oppression that Native Americans suffered over the course of centuries.
