More than 80 firefighters were called into a Jersey City fire on 77 Hudson Street after the 17th and 18th floors of a high-rise luxury condominium caught on fire. The fire spread rapidly as the building was under construction and there was lumber lying around the inside of the building.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire in the top three floors, but had trouble getting to the blaze as the standpipe only went up to the 15th floor. The blaze, which could be seen from Manhattan, was under control by 1 a.m. but firefighters stayed at the scene to put water on hot spots.
No injuries were reported, but Jersey police put a frozen zone in place around the high-rise building.
