Doris Lessing wins Nobel Prize

British writer Doris Lessing was named the winner of 2007’s Nobel Prize. The 87-year-old is the fourth woman in a 15 year span to win the prize.

Lessing made her writing debut with “The Grass is Singing” in 1950, but made her major breakthrough with “Golden Notebook” in 1962.

 

She has traveled throughout her life. Lessing’s travels to Africa and her deep interest in African rights influenced much of her work.

 

Lessing has been married twice and divorced twice and has three children.
