Linehan, known as Mechele Hughs at the time of Leppink’s murder, was said to be ‘obsessed’ with the film, which lead her to eventually make it a reality.
Linehan worked at a strip club in 1996 and prosecutors say it was there that the story began to unfold. They say Leppink’s body was found in a desolate area near a trail in Hope,
Carlin was convicted of murdering Leppink in April. At the time of the murder, Carlin’s son was underage and could not be questioned. In 2005 Carlin’s son was interviewed and said he witnessed his father washing a gun with bleach and Linehan stood nearby watching. He gave police enough evidence to bring charges against his father.
Another twist in the story threw a wrench in Linehan’s plans. Leppink apparently expected something was not right, and sent a letter to his parents to read should anything “fishy” happen to him. Only days before he was murdered, Leppink changed the beneficiary on his life insurance policy from Linehan to his parents.
“Since you’re reading this, you assume that I’m dead,” reads Leppink’s letter. He named Linehan, Carlin and one other man in the note. “Make sure she is prosecuted,” he added.
