Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak is said to be resting comfortably in a German clinic after undergoing successful surgery to treat an inflamed gall bladder.
Mubarak, 81, was in Germany to hold talks with Chancellor Anglea Merkel when he began complaining of pain.
The Egyptian leader was said to have spoken with family and his medical team following the surgery and is now resting in the intensive care unit. Egypt’s Prime Minister Ahmad Nazif has assumed the powers of the presidency until Mubarak return to the country.
Mubarak has held the presidency since 1981.
