A Pakistani airstrike on a building in the country’s northwest region of Mohmand has killed at least 16 militants, one of them believed to be a top commander for the Taliban.
According to reports a number of helicopters fired on a building where several militants had been gathered and after the attack Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik announced Maulana Faqir Mohammed was likely killed in the strike.
Faqir Mohammed was said to meeting with another top commander in the hideout when the strike occurred. Shortly after the strike Malik told reporters “I would be surprised if he's alive. I hope we'll have confirmation in a day or so.”
Faqir Mohammed is considered a senior figure in the Pakistani Taliban and had been the target of the country’s aggressive assault on the militants.
