E. coli Scare Causes Ground Beef Recall from Arko Veal Co.

Arko Veal Co. voluntarily recalled more than 1,900 pounds of ground beef after discovering the meat may be contaminated with E. coli.

Included in the recall were 50-pound cases of ‘Beef Patties Mix,’ ‘80/20.’ Those cases were delivered to restaurants in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina with production dates between Oct.7 and Oct. 9, 2007.

Each case was labeled with an establishment number “Est. 20766.”

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) discovered the problem after routine microbiological testing.
