Singer and songwriter Mark Linkous, best known for being
the mastermind behind the alternative rock band Sparklehorse, has died. Linkous
took his own life Saturday.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that our
dear friend and family member Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are
thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his
journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for
you,” Linkous’ family said in a statement.
No other details on Linkous’ death were available.
Linkous’ music career began in the 80s when he founded the
indie band Dancing Hoods. After the band's breakup in 1989, Linkous
continued to write songs. In 1995, he founded Sparkhorse with Scott Minor.
They have released 4 albums, the most recent being 2009’s Dark Night of the
Soul, a collaboration with Danger Mouse, and In the Fishtank, a collaboration
with Fennesz.
