Pope John Paul II Image Appears in Flames During Bonfire Service

An image of the late Pope John Paul II appeared in the flames of a bonfire service that was being celebrated to honor the pontiff on the 2nd anniversary of his death.

Many Catholics, including some inside Vatican City, have declared the image to be that of the former Pope who passed away April 2, 2005. For those in attendance, the site of the flames taking the appearance of Pope John Paul II was a sign of his blessing, and one individual in attendance was able to catch the image on camera.

Karol Józef Wojtyła became the 264th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church in 1978 and took the title of Pope John Paul II. The appointed of the Polish Wojtyla marked the first time in more than 450 years that a non-Italian held the Church’s highest position.
