'Mama Carlson' actress Carol Bruce dies at 87

Actress and singer Carol Bruce, known as Mama Carlson, died October 9 at the age of 87. Bruce died in Woodland Hills, California of obstructive pulmonary disease.

She was known for her role as Mama Carlson on ‘WKRP in Cincinnati.’ Bruce played a tough business woman who was the owner of a radio station run by her son, Arthur Carlson, who was played by Gordon Jump. Bruce played on the show from the beginning of the show in 1979 to the very last show in 1982. 

 

Bruce appeared on many other shows including ‘The Golden Girls,’ ‘Doogie Howser, M.D.,’ ‘Knots Landing,’ and ‘Twilight Zone’ among others. She also performed in many Broadway productions and filmed several movies for Universal Studios.

 

Bruce is survived by her sister, her daughter, two grandsons, and two great-grandsons.
