Convicted murderer Linda Darby captured 35 years after jail escape

Linda Darby was finally captured 35 years after her escape from an Indiana prison. Darby was convicted of killing her husband in 1970 and sentenced to life in prison, but managed to escape by climbing over a barbwire fence two years later.

Darby, now 64-years-old, has been found living quietly in a small Tennessee town. She had been going by the name Linda Joe McElroy and is believed to have been living in Pulaski, Tennessee for at least 30 years.

“As far as I know she never had any criminal history after she came here. She never got into any trouble. She led a flawless life,” says Giles County Sheriff Kyle Helton.

Darby is being held in the Giles County jail and will be moved to Indiana on Tuesday.
