NBA News: Allen Iverson Said to be Battling Alcohol and Gambling Problems

Allen Iverson is reportedly battling alcohol and gambling issues that could end his NBA career and possibly threaten his legacy according to a report on ESPN.com.

The 11-time NBA All-Star has already said he will not return to the Philadelphia 76ers this season, saying he wanted to spend time with his sick daughter, but speculation has swirled around reports that the 34-year-old guard has his own personal problems he needs to address.

Long-time Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Stephen A. Smith published a column on Monday that said Iverson “will either drink himself into oblivion or gamble his life away.”

Those gambling problems have led to his banishment from casinos in Detroit and Atlantic City.

One of the most popular players in NBA history Iverson has had a difficult time finding the right team over the past several years. The 2001 NBA MVP had a brief run with the Denver Nuggets that ended after the 2008 season and then an even shorter stint with the Detroit Pistons. He began this season with the Memphis Grizzlies but lasted just three games before signing with the 76ers were he played 25 games before taking a leave of absence to be with his four-year-old daughter.
