U.S. President Barack Obama continues to target insurance companies in his push for healthcare reform in the country, criticizing the firms for their practice of denying coverage to some while increasing rates for those who do have policies.
Obama was at Arcadia University just outside Philadelphia on Monday when he took aim at the insurance companies, telling those in attendance “Every year, they drop more people's coverage when they're sick and need it most. Every year, they raise premiums higher and higher.”
The president said the practice of dropping a person’s coverage when they get sick while raising the rates of others needed to end and his health care reform proposals would do just that. Obama has been battling for this reform since he campaigned for the presidency yet he has found it difficult to get past Republicans and some inside his own Democratic party.
Despite the problems with moving healthcare forward the White House is hoping to see Congress pass Obama’s revised proposals before he heads to Asia on March 85.
The proposed reforms, according to Obama, include the best ideas of both Democrats and Republicans but Republicans have insisted the $950 billion price tag was too much for the country to handle.
