A tornado touched down in the town of Nappanee, Indiana on Thursday night causing major damage to buildings and homes and sending at least five people to the hospital with minor injuries.
Nappanee, located 20 miles southeast of South Bend, was without power as the storm downed trees and caused structural damage to several homes and buildings. Businesses were closed on Friday as clean up crews and rescue workers began their inspection of homes to ensure nobody was trapped or injured.
A state of emergency was declared as the town could be facing several days without power and have been ordered to boil their water.
