Malibu Fire Envelopes 500 Acres, Claims Presbyterian Church

Mandatory evacuations are now in effect for Pepperdine University, Malibu Crest and Serra Retreat as a Malibu fire continues to spread, having already claimed 500 acres of land and closing sections of the Pacific Coast Highway. A Malibu Presbyterian Church has also been lost as have several homes in the area.

With winds making it nearly impossible for firefights to contain the blaze efforts have been made to evacuate residents who live in areas in the wildfires path.

Students of Pepperdine University are being gathered in the schools basketball arena while faculty, staff and other residents have been advised to relocate to Zuma Beach as an evacuation safety.

As the fire continues to spread more buildings and homes are expected to be lost. There are at least 70 engines working on the blaze as well as four water helicopters and two water planes.
