Mitt Romney Wants Hard Punishments for Internet Predators

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, the former Governor of Massachusetts, announced in a press release in July that he is likely to propose a "One Strike, You're Ours" law for those involved in criminal activities on children through the Internet. Governor Romney states that we need fresh and tougher punishments for first-time offenders that use the Internet to sexually assault children. Penalties described in the press release include rigid mandatory imprisonment and lifetime following by way of a Global Positioning Satellite (GPS).

According to the national polls posted on USAElectionPolls.com's Mitt Romney stat sheet taken in October, Romney is averaging anywhere from 9% to 15% -- up from 7.3% to 14% in September.

Massachusetts Republican District lawyers and Sheriffs have waved their hand in support for Romney's "One Strike, You're Ours" policy.

These folks released this declaration concerning Romney's protection of children as Governor of Massachusetts and as a probable President of the United States:

"As Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney was a strong defender of children. He led the effort to put photos of the state's most dangerous sex offenders on the Internet and made it easier to extend civil commitments for sex offenders. As a candidate for president, Governor Romney is once-again demonstrating strong leadership in protecting our children. His 'One Strike, You're Ours' law is an important initiative to strengthen law enforcement and protect America's sons and daughters. We are proud to stand alongside Governor Romney in his campaign for our nation's highest office."

Hard punishments like this at a federal level would follow certain states who have also decided to give strict penalties for those who victim the children. Florida and California, for instance, have "Jessica's Law."

The Internet is being extensively used today by all citizens, including kids. With amplified Internet use, there is a danger that computer-aided offenses against children will grow.

Mitt Romney is polling strong with the more traditional conservatives according to USAElectionPolls.com who are rejecting candidates like Rudy Giuliani for their moderate views. Policy beliefs such as this helps him.
