Rancho Bernardo and Poway Evacuated as Southern California Wildfires Remain Untamed

Thousands of Southern California residents in Rancho Bernardo and Poway were forced to flee their homes as the destructive Witch Fire continued to move west, engulfing homes and the countless acres that lay in its path.

For firefighters, a major contributing factor in their inability to control the wildfires has been residents neglecting evacuation orders. Those same residents are the ones flooding the 911 phone line asking for rescue help when they become trapped in their homes or cars. Instead of concentrating their efforts of fighting the blaze, many firefighters have been forced into rescue relief.

Even with evacuation compliance it would be difficult to contain the wildfires as the Santa Ana winds have continued to gust at up to 69 mph, fanning the flames across large sections of Southern California.

As the Witch Fire continues to travel west residents of Rancho Bernardo, Poway, Escondido, Forest Ranch and Lake Hodges saw many of their homes burned to the ground. Many officials believe the fire will continue until hitting the coast, destroying almost everything in between.

With more than 250,000 people already evacuated due to the Witch Fire, it is believed the traveling inferno will become more destructive than the Cedar Fire of four years ago that killed a dozen people and burned more than 280,000 acres.
